It is August 1st and if you have been following the blog you know the first of the month is when I post short articles about art, social events, interviews and much more.
Today's article is about a company called "Woulib Ads". The word "Woulib" means "lift" in English, in other words, the company is called "Lift advertising". At first, I thought it was going to be something like Uber because I didn't quite understand what the company was about.
"Woulib Ads" is advertising/marketing company in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. With "Woulib Advertising" entering the market over the 2018 summer, they will change public transportation across the country by adding a twist to the regular day to day transport that we are accustomed to seeing. Bus owners will now be able to earn an extra income, using their busses as "Ad space" for companies to gain more exposure across the country.
"Woulib Advertising" offers marketing services to companies that are searching to advertise their products and/or services using a new approach using the public transportation system in Haiti. The use of billboards has always been an effective way to advertise throughout the country, and with "Woulib", it is the same concept, except that now the billboard is mobile with much more exposure. With a network of currently operating busses, "Woulib" is prepared to offer multiple packages to those trying to advertise across the country. They currently are offering bus wraps and the contracts vary between 3, 6 and 12 months.
With the option of being single or double sided.
The first bus is their own "advertise here" has been out since the month of June. They were also actively taking meetings with potential clients in hopes to lock in their first contact this month as well.
For the time being, Alain Supplice manages almost everything alone. He works a full-time job as a sales manager for a shipping company. He does have 1 employee. Manny. He is the network supervisor. He “hits†the streets as needed to keep in touch with the bus drivers and more.
Where did the idea come from?
"I've had this idea since 2014 when I dropped out of college. Well I thought I had dropped out. I ended up taking a year off and went back to finish. I just always found it amazing how the "tap-taps" and larger public transport trucks are cultural, but the mini busses are mostly plain and could be used as ad space like more developed countries. The amount of people using public transport is high. A minimum of almost 11,000 people use those busses per month. Why not expose the passengers and active population to a mobile ad?
Is what I was thinking."
A little bit more about the owner...
"My name is Alain Supplice. I'm 24 years old. Born in Miami, Florida but raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I spent my entire academic career in Haiti at Union School and graduated from Florida International University with a BA in Law, Business and Society.
I'm a middle child and often think it has a lot to do with me always wanting to be independent, hence starting my own business as soon as I moved back to Haiti this past January after graduating in December of 2017.
I've been a part of several small business ventures before (started at age 14 celling cellphones) and have always been seen as an entrepreneur by those around me. For the first time, I think I'm starting to deserve that name.
I thank my older brother for making me who I am today along with my parents. My parents are amazing, and I won't ever stop thanking them for everything they've done for me. I can't forget to mention my younger sister. She supports me in EVERYTHING I do. We used to bump heads a lot but today I don't know what I'd do with her. My support system really keeps me going when things get tough. And trust me they do more than you would imagine."
I thank Alain for agreeing to participate in this article and I thank my readers for reading article.
